RoloEdit is a desk accessory for manipulating text data via the ClipBoard. To work on some piece of text, ╥Copy╙ it to the ClipBoard using your favorite word processor or other application. Then open the RoloEdit DA. When the RoloEdit window comes up, you will see a message telling how many characters of text data there are in the ClipBoard. You may then click on any of the buttons to alter the contents of the ClipBoard. When you have completed your alterations, return to your application window and ╥Paste╙ in your altered text.
The various buttons perform the following operations:
╥Rolo->Table╙ and ╥Table->Rolo╙: These two buttons convert between the Rolodex file format (the original application, not the newer DA) and a tabular format suitable for pasting into spread sheet programs.
╥CR -> TAB,╙ ╥CR -> Space,╙ ╥Strip CRs╙: These three buttons search for carriage returns and turn them into tabs or spaces, or remove them; respectively.
╥TAB ->CR,╙ ╥TAB -> Space,╙ ╥Strip TABs╙: These three buttons convert tabs to carriage returns, to spaces, or remove them; respectively.
╥Lower->Upper╙ and ╥Upper->Lower╙: convert lower case characters to upper case characters, and vice versa. These commands affect only alphabetical characters a╔z and A╔Z, it will not alter numbers, symbols, or letters with diacritical marks (like Ä).
Finally, '," -> ╘╒,╥╙ and ╘╒,╥╙ -> '," convert between the straight quote marks and their curved equivalents. This allows you to convert an existing file to the typographer╒s quotes. It also allows you to be lazy and type the straight quotes, which are much easier to get at on the keyboard, then later turn them into ╥real╙ quotes. The alogorithm used to decide whether to replace a straight quote with an opening quote or a closing quote is pretty basic, if you are doing something out of the ordinary, you should check over your document to ensure that RoloEdit has the same opinions as do you.
